STEM Innovation Project

The STEM Innovation project is part of the wider Moving on Tyne & Wear programme, which was developed to tackle health barriers to employment in the area.

The project will focus on providing volunteering opportunities for people aged 19 and over who are interested in working towards a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. It has a focus on people who have health barriers which prevent them from getting involved in training, education and volunteering opportunities available.

VODA will work alongside partners TyneMet College and North Tyneside Council to deliver the project, and we are delighted to welcome Claire Howard to the VODA team, who came into post as Volunteering Co-ordinator for the project at the beginning of March. Claire will be responsible for building connections with North Tyneside residents, referral agencies and potential placements providers.

Get Involved

A range of taster opportunities will be developed as well as training and ‘buddy support’ to help people access opportunities and build confidence. We’d love to hear from any North Tyneside organisations that offer opportunities in STEM fields or who would like to get involved. Contact Claire Howard for more information.
