Volunteering

North Tyneside has a thriving volunteer community with extensive links between various organisations. Whether you are interested in helping disadvantaged or disabled people, or promoting an issue you feel strongly about, many organisations will welcome your support.

It will help the team if you already have some idea of what you would like to do (e.g. office work, manual, helping with the elderly, etc), and have a list of your skills to hand (can you use a computer? Do you have organisational skills? Perhaps you are an artist or writer?). Even if you are not sure what you want to do we can always give you some ideas.  Organisations will usually meet out-of-pocket expenses and may be prepared to train you.  Most people find volunteering a highly rewarding experience.

To discover what opportunities are available and join in that experience today, contact:

Ian Dougall: Volunteering Development Officer on 0191 200 8567 or email: ian.dougall@voda.org.uk

or Shirley Holgate: Volunteering Development Officer on 0191 200 7471 (Shirley is based at the Town Hall, Wallsend)

A leaflet on support and access for volunteers is available to download.

Youth Volunteering
VODA's Youth Volunteering projects offer a wide range of opportunities to young people aged 13-25. These opportunities include one day group challenges as well as more regular volunteering placements.

Young volunteers are presented with local and national volunteering awards in recognition of their efforts. Young people are also encouraged to develop their own volunteering initiatives such as the popular Youth Voice FM radio station and Percy Hedley Drama group.

As volunteers, young people are able to develop their skills and confidence whilst also making a positive contribution to their community.

Current volunteer opportunities include sports coaching, mentoring, radio presenting, film making and working with the elderly. All reasonable out of pocket expenses are reimbursed by placement providers or VODA. In addition all volunteers are invited to attend awards parties and events.

There are currently two projects that young people can get involved in; V Project and Active Youth project. They are always looking for new volunteers and for organisations that can provide volunteering opportunities.
